I don't know...

if there is anything more amazing than watching a shuttle launch. Thus far, my experiences have been limited to televised events only, but watching the shuttle lift off the pad as it literally rockets towards space is truly breathtaking - especially when you consider what is actually going on with regards to the specific physics of the vehicle and its quest to escape this planet's pull. The different camera angles offer a wealth of viewing possibilities with the side-mounted camera providing a very cool perspective. Quite simply, amazing.

Well done, sir,...

a massive congratulations and a genuine acknowledgment of overdue respect. And don't forget about this lovely little piece of writing that further impresses how wrong Americans have been in their choice over the past seven years. Sad, just purely sad.

My childhood memories...

are almost complete with this fantastic video of a webcam strapped to a model rocket. I loved building these semi-space invaders and still remember my first dual-D engine launch... yikes that was high (and recovered too)!

As my grade school years...

are jeopardized I am saddened just a bit by such a question.

interested in physics, the universe, or just cool science, check out a recent article on Physics Web discussing String Theory. It gives the very basics of the larger picture found in Brian Greene's The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory. Now some of you may not be huge fans of cosmology or physics but Greene puts everything into completely attainable language and keeps the flow very interesting. And once you've finished that book, jump over to Greene's The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality.

The glory of...

statistical analysis has once again shown to be a science in pursuit of continual self-perfection. Recently, Science News posted a story illustrating how coin tosses are not exactly the ideal 50/50 split-chance experiment we all became accustomed to back in mathematics and statistics classes. I find this of particular importance simply because so much of our world is based on probability... especially when taking into account economic, cosmological, and overall scientific analysis. How long before these "new results" actually show up in textbooks? I would expect college professors to elucidate their pupils as early as next semester (well, the professors actually paying attention to their field of study), but I would not be surprised if a good five years or more passed before high school and junior high are made aware. Why not... we might as well teach false information than expect our instructors to stay on the cutting-edge.
