a local high school, or a high school as far as I can tell, rented out one of our rooms for a little end-of-the-year party/dance time. The balloons all read "Class of 2005" but for some reason all these kids didn't look a shade over 15. Perhaps 8th graders are now holding graduation shin-digs (though I don't quite understand graduating from 8th grade, or 5th for that matter). Naturally, there were chaperones present, parents of various students from what I could tell, but one in particular really caught my eye. He kept pacing as if he was waiting for something -- or someone. I find it fascinating to simply sit and watch people interact or not interact with their environment. This guy was clearly mentally preoccupied with something. Maybe he was reminiscing about his childhood and how he never quite got the girl (this much was obvious), or how he was going to be up late chaperoning at a party he was volunteered to attend by his lovely wife or child, or how he's having the toughest time fighting the urge to run out on the dance floor and really let it all hang out! Either way, this guy was uncomfortable and really looked uncomfortable. To make matters worse I just couldn't stop watching. I was mesmerized. Luckily, a phone call came in and I was distracted from what was sure to turn into an ugly scene with me encouraging the free entertainment to attack the wood and enjoy the night life no matter who's party it is!
