I recently came across a story in regards to a pilot of American Airlines asking the Christians onboard to raise their hands and also to share their faith with their fellow passengers. I realize companies want and need to keep a line between promoting a particular faith and their business, and I certainly support the pilot's grounding and investigation, but I do have an objection as to why the complaint was filed. The story illustrates the complaint was made by a Mr. Foxman and the "Anti-Defamation League, a group that monitors anti-Semitism." Since when did sharing a person's faith involve anti-Semitism? Anti-Semetism is anything that goes against Jews and all they stand for, but I fail to believe sharing one's Christian faith is birthed from such origins (I am speaking of Biblical Christians... not the facade christianity known to our current and past societies). I certainly will not delve into the true details separating Christians and Jews (yes, what you think you know is more than likely incorrect), but these same antics displayed by the pilot can easily be regarded as anti-Atheist, anti-Buddhist, anti-Hindu... you get my point. Yes, the pilot has no right to command or ask his passengers to engage in such behavior from a directing standpoint, and the complaint should be filed with this idea as the central theme... however, if these passengers choose to do so at their own willing, whether they be Christians, Atheists, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, etc., then the matter changes dramatically. All this to say: Stop playing the race, religion, or sex card; it's sad, pathetic, and an easy wolf-cry any time someone wants cheap publicity, attention, and an almost guaranteed win over their opposition. Rather, we as a society could embrace the unthinkable disposition of intellectual discussion and civil discourse in an attempt to reach mutual respect and understanding. Perhaps our "equality" could or would then be achieved slightly faster or even at all.
